Morfar - Single Artwork

Hailing from Trondheim, Norway, Morfar is the quirky, lo-fi, electronic pop project of Morten Samdal. Samdal has been involved in a number of bands, including Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson and You Could Be a Cop.

In the fall of 2019, 13 years after releasing his first and only EP, Samdal revived the project and released several new Morfar singles. I was responsible for creating the artwork for each of these singles.

Morfar relies heavily on old keyboards, eclectic instrumentation, and sampling to create his music. He draws influence from 90s emo bands, electronic pop music, and more modern post-rock acts like Sigur Rós. It’s this mix of polished and unpolished sounds that inspired the creative vision for the singles’ artwork.

“Memories” are a common thread running through each of the singles. To evoke this imagery, I dug through boxes of old photographs, documents, and other materials at a bookstore in Philadelphia. I then scanned these materials and combined them digitally to create compelling compositions.
